The Trangia stove is today used by outdoor people all over the world. For half a century, the Trangia stove has been the natural choice for storm-proof stoves. Our approach to quality has put its stamp on manufacturing throughout the process, from the choice of materials to function.

If Victorinox are the kings of Swiss Army knives, Sigg the kings of water bottles and Thermarest of sleeping mats, then undoubtedly Trangia are the kings of camping stoves. A mega simple but proved design that has overcome the advance or more modern alternatives. We personally inherited a Trangia that is now 35 years old and is still the choice of stove whether we are on an Alps ski touring trip, a hike in Wales or a surf trip to Cornwall.
If you have never had the pleasure of using one then we recommend you try, or better yet, just go and buy one. You won't be disappointed and neither will your children when you pass it down to them.
The basic principle is an all-in-one, lightweight cook set which uses a wind-proof burner that runs from methylated spirit, the beauty of which can be obtained in pretty much an country. Failing that you can use petrol, strong spirits and most flammable substances. Meths is clearly the best option but it is nice to know you can resort to the others if you get desperate.
You can get used ones readily on a certain online auction site and Trangia still supply spares readily from most decent outdoor stores. Nowadays they have a mini version, the 25 and the 27 Series available from new with various options in each. The mini is designed for a single person, the 27 for two and the 25 for three - four people. Each have a non-stick option available at extra cost and now the 25/27 series also have a gas burner option for high altitude trips.
We especially like is the ability to pack away dirty pans into a single unit so you can wash them up later without worry about getting your bag mucky. If you need to go lightweight you can easily remove some pans and simply take what is required and the stove itself has an airtight cap to store enough fuel for two sittings, saving you the hassle of carrying extra fuel on single day trips. We also found that there is enough space under the lid to put a spork, a small sponge and washing up liquid in a hotel shampoo hotel bottle!
There is a fairly decent guide to using one here:

Used one for the first time this year. Yeah it was a bit dear but well worth it. Buy the bigger trangia meths bottle saves worrying if you'll run out. Half a litre will do three meals a day for 5 days. Wish I'd bought non stick though. Cooking fresh prawns off the boat in garlic and butter at silver sands Morar was such an amazing day. :)
